Pacific and Southwestern States Lapbooks Part 1

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but to save the last three weeks of geography (weeks 22-24) for focusing on your own state, we’ve combined the Pacific and Southwestern States features in Week 21.  I say this just to prepare you for the totally cool and slightly different lapbook we about to start!  Don’t worry, you’ll recognize this first part. The different part starts next week, I just thought you’d like some heads up!

As we always do, prepare your lapbook by opening your file folder and folding the sides inward.  Would you believe me if I told you I had exactly 2 purple file folders left (which we will use both for this last lapbook)! I wish I could say I planned it that way, but in reality it was just God’s providence.

Now print the state matchbooks and the states map.  Print the matchbooks two sided (flip along the LONG side of the paper).

So for this one, you can trim the map with California, Oregon and Washington if you want to, or you can just glue it right into the middle of your lapbook full size.  Cutout on the lines around Alaska and Hawaii. As always your options with these blank maps are:

1. Color and label before glue-sticking it to the lapbook.
2. Laminate (or use contact paper) the map.  Then glue it into your lapbook and your students can use a dry erase marker to write information on the map.  (I would recommend the laminated version if you have one lapbook per family, so you can erase one student’s information and allow other students to label)

Add those however you’d like to, to the middle of your lapbook.  Mine looks like this:

My husband said I should’ve put Alaska and Hawaii to the left of California.  I’m not sure it matters, so glue them however you wish into the middle section.

Then print your state matchbooks (double sided flipped along the long side of the paper). Fold them into match books.

Glue these onto either the left OR right side flap of your lapbook.  I recommend keeping them all together on one side though.
